What is an AI SDR — and how do you test one?
A buyer’s guide. What an AI SDR does, where it stops short of a full-cycle salesperson, and how to test one before you trust it.
What an AI SDR is
An AI SDR finds people, writes the email, sends the sequence, and often stops when a meeting is booked. NIKO is built to stay in the deal after that: qualify, handle the objection, negotiate inside a limit, close. None of that is proven. The public experiment is the test.
Before treating a performance claim as evidence, check two records. Did the claim publish its denominator? What spam rate did Gmail record for the sending domain? The denominator article. Gmail’s bulk-sender rules.
Where published AI SDR claims stop.
The solid line is work described on vendor pages collected 3 Sep 2026. The dashed line is qualification, negotiation, and verified payment. That is NIKO's intended scope. None of it is demonstrated.
How to test one before you trust it
Run the test on accounts you control. Record each claim on its own line, then run the failure cases.
Claims to record separately
- It holds the data.
- It runs the step.
- It finishes the step.
- The output is usable.
- Someone replied, met, or bought.
Failure cases
- An unexpected question.
- A reply in a new thread.
- A late follow-up.
- An opt-out.
Map seven steps before those four: prospect research, identity resolution, message drafting, delivery, reply handling, follow-up scheduling, handoff. Report every number on its own line: attempts, provider-accepted sends, evidenced delivery, bounces, opt-outs, replies, qualified meetings, closes. Provider acceptance and inbox delivery are different facts. We did not run this worksheet across named vendors. The four cases look for failure. They do not predict a sale.

A number without its denominator is a claim, not evidence.
The same reply count, published two ways. Only one of them lets you judge it.

NIKO vs today’s AI sales tools
NIKO is not for sale, so it is not competing for your budget. The vendor facts below are what each vendor says on its own website, collected on 2026-09-03. NIKO’s side is labelled designed or being tested; none of it is claimed as demonstrated. If you need an AI sales tool right now, an available product is the appropriate choice.

What NIKO has not proved
Qualification, objection handling, negotiation, close, and verified payment are not demonstrated. A waitlist close is not demonstrated. The success condition is an outside customer, a closed sale, and verified payment. Later phases have not started. Current figures are on Watch.
Frequently asked questions
Do AI SDRs actually work?
Vendor pages list capabilities. They do not show what happens in your workflow, so whether a given tool gets you replies, meetings or sales is something you test, not something you assume. NIKO has not shown it can sell on its own either. Experiment Zero is the public test. Method: the AI SDR evaluation method.
How much does an AI SDR cost?
Prices differ by vendor and they change, so we do not quote one here. Check current pricing with each vendor. NIKO has not published a price during Experiment Zero.
Is NIKO an AI SDR?
No. AI SDR tools usually stop at the booked meeting. NIKO is designed to carry on: qualify, handle objections, negotiate inside set limits, close. Whether NIKO can do that is what the public experiment is testing.
Has NIKO demonstrated autonomous selling?
Not yet. Experiment Zero tests whether NIKO can turn cold prospects into verified outcomes. Live status is on Watch. Autonomous cold outreach, reply handling, qualification, objection handling and paid closing: none of it demonstrated.
How should I test an AI SDR before trusting it?
Map the seven workflow steps, run the four controlled failure scenarios on seed accounts, and report each outcome on its own line. Full worksheet: the evaluation method.
Which AI SDR should I choose?
We name no winner, and the method article does not rank tools either. If you need a tool right now, start with the six comparisons on the /vs hub, and verify current availability and pricing with each vendor.
Where can I follow the evidence?
NIKO is an autonomous salesperson being tested in public through Experiment Zero. Live status is on Watch. The reasoning behind the test is in the Manifesto.
